We Thank you for considering a Gravel Grinder here out West. Our Gravel Grinder will start & end @Pizza Carrello 601 S Douglas HWY Gillette, Wyoming. There will be an award ceremony at this location after the race. This race is comprised of road & gravel for ages 18+. The course is approximately 72 miles/116 kilometers. 50 miles Road & 22 miles of in your face Gravel Grinding!!!
The first thing you will see is BNSF Railway Depot. This is the main reason we do not have a loop course to offer you. We are limited on our overpasses. The Gurley overpass is only for automobiles. So we have to use the overpass on the west end of town. HWY 14. You will head North from there. Your fist encounter with Coal Country will Be Alpha Coal Eagle Butte Mine. You will witness first hand the amazing way just off the Hwy reclaimed land is right back to where it used to be & even a few rock piles to bring back small animals like Rabbits, Coyotes, Bobcats, Lynx & Grey fox's. The easiest to see will be the Pronghorn & Mule Deer.
Your next Coal encounter will be our newest facility. The Dry Fork Station. You will be going extremely fast down the ascent I will tell you that! Then a slow and steady hill climb stares you in the face just after you make the turn onto North 59 the fun begins for sure! The course is very intense & beautiful to say the least.
Immediately after Dry Fork Station you will be passing Peabody Energy Rawhide mine. This part of the course is the flat for the most part & beautiful. You could see all the animals listed above including some White tailed deer. BEAUTIFUL COUNTRYSIDE RIGHT HERE. Just before you hit Cow Creek Road. Our AID STATION will be there for you all to refresh & replenish your ride items. Then its time for the Gravel. Good luck, there are a lot of hills, turns & descents.
